The Story of The Snail - A Motivational and Inspirational Story about Believing in Yourself

That day I was writing one of the stories for my soon to-be-launched new motivational book- Life is an Open Secret- You, Me and We, alhamdulillah. All excited while writing, I suddenly remembered one of my readers who emailed me months ago. She told me how she wanted to become a writer too, but, was skeptical of her writing ability.

Somehow, what she was saying, felt very familiar to me. In fact, there were many times we were all guilty of this same thing, you agree?

I remembered what Arthur Golden said once,

A mind troubled by doubt cannot focus on the course to victory.

Absolutely!

How can we focus to achieve our goals and reach our desired results if every step of the way we became uncertain, unsure and undecided!

Just imagine wanting to put on a dress. So, we checked out wardrobe and decided it’s going to be the green one for that day. But as we were about to put it on, we paused and asked ourselves- could the white one look better on us? Now, we have the white dress in our hands and just as we are about to put it on, we paused and said- wouldn’t the black one make me look slimmer? Then, we took the black dress out of the closet and moments before putting it on, we paused and said- but it is so hot out there! So, we changed back to green. Yikes!

Kind of silly, don’t you agree? But as ridiculous as it sounded, I think there are many times in my life when I was guilty of doing the same thing- over and over again!

It made me wonder- what is this thing called doubt is really about?

Then I remembered what Allah, the Al Mighty once said,

“In their hearts is a disease (of doubt and hypocrisy)… “(Surah Al-Baqara 2:10)

Astaghfirullah, it is a disease! No wonder it cannot go away just like that. And it sure has costs me a whole lot of effort to overcome it too, you agree?

But this discovery of knowing that it is a disease, meant one thing- there is a cure for it, don't you think?

That was enough to motivate me to look for the medicine, the cure of this thing that I have. And I know that I needed the stronger medicine to enable me to get rid of it- once and for all!

Don’t you want to find the cure too, my brothers and sisters? Cure from the heartache and headache we got by just being in doubt?

Suddenly, I remembered the words of my Lord,

Then when you have reached a firm decision, put your trust in Allah. (3:159)

Of course! This is what I have to do. Make sense, doesn’t it?

If I have to make certain decision, I should be really sure that’s what I wanted. And once I do that, I must proceed and put my trust in my Lord! No more second guessing, no more having doubt and absolutely no more noises in my head! Just be confident in my decision and trust Him! Totally!

Isn’t that the best cure ever? SubhanAllah!

Let me share with you a pictorial story of a snail one of my friends send me that day,

SubhanAllah! One look and we all know it sure wasnt easy for the snail to make that cross. But once it decided, it didnt pause and doubt mid-way, right? I asked myself- can't i do what the snail did? Decide of what i wanted to do, and then stick to that decision. No matter how scary it felt while doing what i wanted, no matter how much i felt like backing out, i should stay firm and finish what i wanted to do!

Don't you want to do that too, my brothers and sisters?

I love what Shakespeare said once,

Our doubts are traitors and make us lose the good we oft might win by fearing to attempt.

After watching and learning from the snail, i know what Shakespeare said is true.

Don't you?

Think about it.

As Salaamu 'alaykum and peace to all,

Dear Anonymous, Yes, i totally agree with you. Uncertainties is really a terrifying thing if we think about it. It could give us the shivers to our very bone. But, just look at the snail and the level of dare-devil it has in it. Kinda make our face red, huh?
