The Story of The Day We Met- Motivational and Inspirational Story of Mending Broken Pieces

That day, my handphone rang. And i smiled as i looked at the name that appeared on the screen.

'Salaam sweety. How are you?' I cheerfully greeted my darling friend

'Salaam my dear. Doing great, what about you?' she asked back

'Couldnt have asked for better, alhamdulillah!'

'Dear, guess who is here with me now and wants to talk to you. Someone whom we both know and who has been missing for a very very long time!'

'Hmmm.... Mimi?' I took a wild guess

And amazingly, I was right! SubhanAllah!

Mimi is a friend of ours who have disappeared from our friendship radar for the longest time for reasons only known to her.

But that doesnt matter anymore as now, she is back. And that's what really matters.

So, we decided it is time to pick up the (broken?) pieces, throw them all away in the waste paperbasket and use the old frame of affection and love to draw up a new picture on a totally new canvas!

I have to say, it was a great feeling.

Absolutely!

Didnt our beloved Prophet Muhamad (peace be upon him) said this?

"Shall I tell you a degree better than prayer, fasting and sadaqa?" "Yes," they replied. He went to say, Improving a state of friendship. Causing discord in a state of friendship is what shaves things away." (Bukhari)

Interesting, dont you think?

Look at how much Allah wants us to continue to build and nurture the friendships we have with one another. To the extent that He shall reward that act of 'friendship nurturing' a degree better than prayer, fasting and sadaqa!

Allaahu akbar!

It made me feel like the phone calls, the visits and the emails i wrote to my friends all over the globe, has now given me something great that i have never thought of! A reward from my Lord, the Al Mighty!

And yes, i do love all my friends.

In fact, I believe what Marcus Tullius Cicero said here,

A friend is, as it were, a second self.

Yes, my second self...

Let me share with you a poem from the Jill Eisnaugle’s Poetry Collection

The Day We Met

The day we met, my life became
Much better than before
Our friendship lit an endless flame
That shall grow evermore
Providing strength to guide me through
From morn ‘til day is done
With forcefulness I never knew
Could thrive beneath the sun

The moment that your life and mine
Joined for our friendship’s start
A bond that I need not define
Formed deep within my heart
Carving a place that shall remain
A shrine for all to see
That shall eternally contain
The joy you’ve brought to me

I have no doubt my life is blessed
I’ve known for many years
Likewise, I could never contest
My happiness and tears
These days may come, these days may leave
But I shall not forget
The goals you’ve helped me to achieve
Thanks to the day we met.

Let us asked ourselves- have we nurtured the friends we have around us? Have we build up the gardens of friendships we offered to others with beautiful and sweetly scented jasmine, roses and lilies? Or we let the weeds to grow as long as they wanted, my dear brothers and sisters? And maybe worse, let the snakes start a family there too!

Yikes! Not a good feeling, huh?

Caliph Ali once said,
Unfortunate is he who cannot gain a few sincere friends during his life and more unfortunate is the one who has gained them and then lost them (through his deeds).

His words made me sit, reflect and began pondering- have i been unfortunate, more unfortunate and totally fortunate with regards to my friends in my life?

What about you, my friends? Which one are you?

Think about it.

I love this post. Along the way, I, too, have lost several of my friends. We would play the finger-pointing game, blaming each other.

Sometimes, when we let our ego do its job... we are nothing but selfish people.

I guess, to have good friends is to be one. It's to forgive one another. Let our ego and pride aside, and be the first person to offer an apology.

We should really treasure our friends.......

Thanks for this inspiring post!

As Salaamu 'alaykum and peace to all,

Dear Brother Syafique, I totally got you on this. I myself have fallen into the same thing over and over again. I am not proud of myself for that too. However, I think if every single time our ego wants to take us over, let us remember the 'shaver' and how painful it is if things we love are being shaved away from us! Nauzubillah! Kinda give us the shivers, didnt it?

Salaams

assalam alaikum sister,

Muslim inspirational story!

I've been collecting inspirational verses from the Quran and was thinking to publish them as a nice coffee table quotation book.

Good to know that there are other Muslim authors in the same field.

May Allah keep us on the right path
